Google teases a few surprises at the Pixel 10 launch event, but I’m not buying

The Made by Google 2025 event is finally here, and in just a few short hours, we’ll see the official unveiling of the Pixel 10, Pixel Watch 4, and more. The hype is a tad different this time around, especially with the new, star-studded event format hosted by Jimmy Fallon. In one of the final teaser videos, Google even hints at some big surprises, with Fallon’s script having a bunch of “censored” moments where he’s supposedly talking about things he’s not allowed to mention yet.

And while my heart wants to believe in a magical “one more thing” moment, my head is telling me not to fall for it. I think what we’ve already seen leaked is exactly what we’re going to get today, and this is all just a bit of playful marketing.

A trip down memory lane to the Pixel 4 (or the Pixel 3)

My skepticism is born from experience, and it takes me all the way back to the Pixel 4 (or Pixel 3 – I can’t remember now) launch. I remember the night before that event, Google released a teaser video that basically said, “You think you know, but you have no idea.” And we really thought that would be the case and that there would be something crazy at the event.

Spoiler alert, there was nothing unexpected. Nothing new. Nothing un-leaked. And it was a huge bummer that I fell for that. I learned a bit about managing my expectations in the end, but I’ve become pretty skeptical since.

What we already know is plenty

Let’s be clear, though: my skepticism about a surprise doesn’t dampen my excitement for today’s event. The lineup of products we are fully expecting to see is already massive and more than enough for a fantastic keynote. We’re anticipating:

  • The Pixel 10
  • The Pixel 10 Pro
  • The Pixel 10 Pro XL
  • The Pixel 10 Pro Fold
  • The Pixel Watch 4
  • The Pixel Buds 2a

Honestly, an event with all of that doesn’t need a surprise. This is one of the most packed hardware slates Google has ever put together, and it seems they’ll be pulling it off with a lot of celebrity power behind it as well.

So, as we all tune in today, I’m going in with my expectations managed. I would love nothing more than for Google to unveil a new Pixelbook or some other wild, un-leaked product and make this entire post look silly. I’ll be the first to celebrate if they do. But I suspect the “bleeped out” parts of the Fallon video are just a fun way to build hype for the already-great products we know are coming. And frankly, that’s more than enough to be excited about.
