Migrating complex spreadsheets from Microsoft Excel into Google Workspace has always been a fairly smooth process, but it occasionally came with a few frustrating formatting hiccups. One of the most persistent visual issues involved 3D data visualization. Historically, if you imported an Excel file containing a 3D bar chart into the Google ecosystem, the software would automatically flatten it down into a standard 2D representation, stripping away the original visual depth.
Thankfully, that specific data migration hurdle is officially a thing of the past. According to a new post on the Google Workspace Updates blog, Google Sheets now natively supports the direct import of 3D bar charts. When you upload or convert these spreadsheet files moving forward, the original 3D formatting will be perfectly preserved on your canvas, yielding a much more seamless cross-platform experience.

No admin configuration required
Because this is a native rendering update to the core Sheets engine, there are absolutely no backend administrative controls or settings for IT managers to toggle. The feature is entirely on by default.
If your organization operates on the Rapid Release track, the rendering update is already live and available on your account right now. For organizations on Scheduled Release domains, the gradual rollout is slated to begin on July 13, 2026, and could take up to 15 days to become universally visible across all user dashboards.
Universal availability
The best part of this quality-of-life update is that Google isn’t locking it behind a premium enterprise paywall. The new 3D chart rendering engine is rolling out to absolutely everyone, meaning it is available to all Google Workspace customers as well as individuals operating on standard, personal Google accounts.
If you frequently collaborate with clients or coworkers who stubbornly refuse to leave Microsoft Excel behind, your imported financial reports and data decks are about to look a whole lot cleaner on the Google side of the fence.
