The practice of a company using its own products internally is really the ultimate test of faith in what you’re building. In a fascinating new blog post, Google has pulled back the curtain to show just how deeply it’s integrating its own AI tools like Gemini, Imagen, and NotebookLM into its daily operations, and some of the real-world results are pretty wild.
The core message is that Google is using AI as a collaborative partner to automate repetitive tasks, spark creativity, and free up its employees to focus on more innovative and strategic work. Here are some of the most impressive examples.
Supercharging the engineering process
The impact on Google’s own software development is pretty staggering. According to the post, AI now helps generate 30% of all new code written at Google. Beyond just writing code, AI assists throughout the entire development lifecycle, from reviews to testing, leading to an estimated 10% increase in overall engineering velocity. It’s even being used to help sort and fix bugs, with an AI agent now automatically handling 12% of duplicate bug reports.
A creative partner for marketing and design
It’s not just about code; Google’s creative teams are using AI as a brainstorming assistant. The marketing team uses Gemini to generate everything from campaign concepts to draft scripts for YouTube videos. This was on full display at this year’s Google I/O, where AI helped create 219 keynote slides, with nearly half of the visuals coming from the Imagen model and 80% of the videos using either Veo or Imagen.
Driving business and everyday productivity
The use cases extend across the entire company. Google’s sales teams have seen a 78% year-over-year increase in completed proposals thanks to an internal AI tool. And a feature many of us are now familiar with—AI-generated meeting notes in Google Meet—was used by over 50 million attendees in June alone.
In some of the more unique examples, Google is using NotebookLM to instantly summarize and find key themes from thousands of employee survey responses and is even using AI-driven insights to refine menus and reduce food waste in its cafes by 39%.
Seeing Google use its own tools at this massive scale is more than just an interesting anecdote; it’s a preview of how these products will mature for the rest of us. When your own engineers and marketers are relying on your AI every single day, the pace of improvement accelerates for everyone. It’s a really interesting look at the present and future of the AI-powered workplace.
