For the past few days, there’s been a bit of conversation about the fact that the leather band for the Pixel Watch actually has a pretty standard-looking lug attached. I’ll be honest, after a day of using the Pixel Watch, my first thought was, “Why is there no one making a standard lug attachment for this thing?” A simple lug on the end of Google’s custom band attachment would make connecting a standard watch band a simple task.
Turns out, Google’s own leather bands have that exact connector built right in, and we went ahead and detached the included leather band and slapped on one of our own. The process wasn’t exactly simple and required a standard watch band tool, but after popping the pin on the Google-made leather band, we were able to quickly drop in quick release 20mm Arvo band.
Obviously, this band isn’t built for the Pixel Watch, but the lugs being used in Google’s leather bands are standard, and that means you can buy one of these leather bands and then insert any band you may already have lying around.
More importantly, we’re really hoping Google or some 3rd party will eventually just release a lug adapter for the Pixel Watch in a few colors. For $20 or $30, I think plenty of users would drop the cash to have a universal adapter for the Pixel Watch that would allow for whatever watch band you chose to use. I know I’m looking at it now and even if no one chooses to make an adapter like this down the road, I’ll fully consider plunking down the money for the leather band to have it and the lugs for future use.
