It looks like Carphone Warehouse has jumped the gun just a bit ahead of the 10/4 #madebygoogle event.
With what appears to be full marketing materials (thought we’re a bit dubious about the copy), this product page give one of the clearest, most detailed visuals of the Pixel Phone yet.
UPDATE: The listing has been since taken down. We’ve linked to an archived version.
As you can see from the top image, taken directly from the Carphone Warehouse product listing, these pics used on the product page (click into overview) seem legit and look great. The phone, though considered by many to be unattractive and homely in early leaks, looks quite attractive and slick.
What we don’t see is much in the way of flash or branding. Instead, the device looks clean and simple; a great vehicle for Google’s services. These phones look ready to be the standard bearer for Google’s new focus on Google Assistant.
A couple points of interest if these specs are to be believed:
- Expandable memory – this would be the first phone from Google since the original Nexus One to include expandable storage. This is a feature EVERYONE would love to see.
- OIS will make a return – as great as the Nexu 6P and 5X cameras were, the lack of OIS was missed. Your low-light pics will thank you.
- Snapdragon 821 – Qualcomm’s latest, greatest, fastest chip looks to be on-board.
- No Waterproofing – We don’t see any mention of waterproofing. As the iPhone 7 and Galaxy S7 both include a high level of water resistance, it would be a shame not to see this in the Pixel Phones.
Again, take all this with a grain of salt. Nothing is official, but the photos, at least, look very legit. Apart from those, some of the language and other wording look a bit suspect. We’ll know everything in just 40 hours or so.
