Earlier this month, Google pulled back the curtain on its newest primary AI model, Gemini 4 Argon, highlighting how it is actively being deployed to refactor Chromium and supercharge complex agentic workflows. But while the initial rollout was strictly locked behind Google’s enterprise tools and the priciest AI Ultra tier, regular subscribers aren’t being left behind.
Google is officially opening up access to the broader consumer market by rolling out Gemini 4 Argon directly to both Google AI Pro and AI Ultra members inside the consumer Gemini app, on the web, and in Search AI Mode.
If you are paying for the standard Google AI Pro plan (typically bundled with Google One’s 2TB tier), you no longer have to envy the $100/month Ultra crowd as Google’s most capable reasoning engine is showing up in your model picker right now.
Less fluff, direct answers, and better reasoning
Unlike previous updates that focused heavily on broad personality adjustments, Google is pushing Argon as a serious leap forward in how the assistant communicates.
If you’ve grown tired of conversational AI beating around the bush or apologizing excessively, Argon should feel like a breath of fresh air. Google notes that Argon is engineered to answer questions far more directly with significantly less hedging, avoid repetitive phrasing, and strip out annoying clichés. On top of that, it follows granular style and formatting instructions much more strictly than previous Gemini models.
For deeper, multi-step prompts, Argon is also designed to keep you in the loop by actively reporting its progress rather than going silent while it “thinks” through long tasks.
A new model picker and dedicated coding tools
Subscribers seeing the update will notice a few notable changes across the web and desktop interfaces:
- Updated Model Selector: Inside the Gemini app, eligible users will now see a tiered roster featuring Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite, 3.8 Flash, 3.1 Pro, and 4 Argon.
- Tasks Toggle: A new toggle in the main chat window now lets you seamlessly switch between standard conversation and “Tasks” (which previously lived under the Spark branding).
- Mac App Coding Interface: On macOS, Google is letting users switch between standard chat and direct agentic coding, plugging straight into Google Antigravity’s interface for building web experiences and lightweight apps right from the client.
While deep command-line tools like the Antigravity desktop client and CLI will still require the top-tier AI Ultra subscription, bringing Argon’s frontier reasoning and coding capabilities to everyday Google AI Pro users is a massive value add. If you have an active Pro subscription, open up the Gemini app today and check your model drop-down, the upgrade should be waiting for you.
