Google Drive’s best AI feature is no longer chained to your desktop

The “Collaborate with Gemini” feature in Google Drive for the web is an incredibly powerful tool. The ability to have a conversation with your files—summarizing documents, synthesizing information across folders, and pulling out quick facts—has been a game-changer for research and productivity. But up until now, that power has been a desktop-only experience.

That’s finally changing. In a new post on the Workspace Updates blog, Google has announced that it is now extending Gemini’s full capabilities to the Google Drive apps for both Android and iOS.

Your AI research assistant, now on the go

This is a fantastic update that makes Gemini in Drive a far more versatile and useful tool. The same powerful, conversational AI that can analyze your files and folders on the web is now available right on your phone, allowing you to be productive and find information no matter where you are. With this new mobile integration, you can use Gemini to:

• Summarize a long document or an entire folder to quickly get the main points while you’re on the go.
• Discuss a topic by asking questions that require synthesizing information from multiple files in your Drive.
• Retrieve quick facts about a project or topic without having to manually hunt for and read through the relevant documents.

This is a much-needed update that brings one of Drive’s best AI features to the mobile apps where so many of us do our work. The feature is part of an extended roll-out that began on September 22nd, so it should be appearing for eligible users soon. It’s available to most paid Workspace subscribers, Google AI Pro for Education users, and Google One AI Premium subscribers.
