We all have them: long, text-heavy PDFs sitting in our Google Drive that we know we should read but can never find the time for. Think industry reports, lengthy contracts, or meeting transcripts. It’s a significant challenge in our fast-paced world to dedicate time to just sitting and reading.
In a pretty awesome (and highly useful) new update, Google is rolling out a feature to solve this exact problem: AI-powered audio overviews for PDFs in Google Drive.
Your documents, now in podcast form
This new Gemini for Google Workspace feature allows you to instantly convert long PDFs into a conversational, podcast-style audio summary. With just one click, Gemini gets to work and saves a new audio file directly back to your Drive. This is powered by the same underlying technology that makes the “Audio Overview” feature in NotebookLM so popular and effective.
The goal here is to boost your efficiency and make content more accessible. Instead of needing to set aside an hour to read, you can get the main points of a long document in a 2-10 minute audio summary while you’re multitasking—whether you’re on your commute, at the gym, or just doing chores. It’s also a perfect way to quickly review materials right before a meeting or presentation.
How it works
The process is seamless. Once you generate the audio overview on a desktop, you’ll receive an email notification when the file is ready. The audio file is automatically saved to a new “Audio overviews” folder in your Drive, which you can then access from any of your devices, including your phone. For now, this feature only supports English-language PDFs.
This is a brilliant, practical application of AI that makes it easier for everyone to stay informed. The feature is available now for Rapid Release domains and begins its gradual roll-out to Scheduled Release domains today, November 12, 2025. It’s available to most paid Google Workspace tiers (Business Standard/Plus, Enterprise) as well as subscribers to Google One AI Pro/Ultra and Google AI Pro for Education
