Google Docs is getting a big Gemini upgrade with support for 11 new languages

If you’ve been following the continuing integration of Gemini across Google Workspace, you know Google has been steadily transforming Docs from a blank canvas into a much smarter assistant. Today, Google announced a major expansion to Gemini in Google Docs, bringing its AI capabilities to 11 additional languages alongside a suite of recent creation and formatting tools.

What’s New?

The headline update is expanded language support. Gemini in Docs now supports Mandarin, Dutch, Malay, Hebrew, Polish, Turkish, Czech, Indonesian, Swedish, Danish, and Norwegian.

These languages join the existing roster of English, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, French, Korean, German, and Italian, making Gemini’s writing and editing capabilities far more accessible globally.

A Reimagined Creation Experience in Docs

Beyond language expansion, Google is highlighting a streamlined Gemini experience inside Docs designed to help you move from idea to draft faster:

• Upgraded Help me create: Generates fully formatted first drafts by pulling context from your files across Drive, Gmail, Chat, and the web.
• Inline Help me write: Prompt Gemini directly from the bottom bar or side panel to refine text or target specific highlighted sections. Edits remain private until you approve them.
• Match Writing Style: Helps maintain a consistent voice across multi-author documents.
• Match Doc Format: Allows Gemini to mirror structural elements (headings, table formats) and visual styling (fonts and colors) from a source document.

Availability & rollout

Rollout for Rapid Release domains began on July 15, 2026, with Scheduled Release domains starting on August 1, 2026.

The feature is available across most Google Workspace business, enterprise, and higher-tier education plans, as well as Google AI Pro/Ultra consumer accounts. Note that end users must have Workspace smart features enabled in their settings to access these AI tools.
