GlogoWe’ve made and refuted some speculations around a date that, up until this point, was simply a rumor based on a reputable source.

Tonight, Google has gone and made it official with a quick video and a new site dedicated to what’s coming on 10/4.

Seen first on 9 to 5 Google and then on The Verge, Google has dropped a juicy little teaser on its YouTube channel. Check it out below.

Clearly we’re seeing allusions to a phone, a date, and the Big G. What we can discern from this is Google or Pixel branded phones are likely. No mention of a manufacturer or Nexus is made. With just a simple resizing box, we get the sense that this is all Google.

And nothing says all Google in hardware quite like Pixel.

Secondly, Google has also launched a site to confirm our hunches with the URL madeby.google.com.

On the site we get another taste of the same video and a sign up form to “Keep me updated about devices from Google and all the things you can do with them.”

The phone-shaped box cycles through images, hinting at some interesting things surrounding the camera and/or the new wallpaper app that has already been leaked out. I’ve been using it and it is similar to the experience of having tons of categorized, cloud-stored wallpapers on your Chromebook. I’ve enjoyed it immensely.

While this event will focus on the phones, I can’t help but feel that lots of other things will be announced as well. Google is yet to release things they announced back at I/O in May: Google Home, Daydream VR, some rumored smart watches, and perhaps a new Chromebook or two!

You can see here why we think there’s a chance we may see ‘Kevin’ announced at this event, though we can’t be certain.

There’s no way to know what things may be coming, but it is interesting that the site seems to be touting devices made by Google, not just phones.

No matter what is planned, it seems likely that we’ll see the Pixel brand coming to phones and a more cohesive Google ecosystem. For Chromebooks, this only means tighter inclusion and hopes of more, varied hardware as time goes by.

We’ve got it on the calendar and will be reporting as it all goes down!
