We have been tracking Google’s continued push to integrate Gemini directly into the Chrome browser for a while now, and the international footprint is finally expanding in a big way.
According to a new post on The Keyword, Google is officially rolling out the deeply integrated Gemini in Chrome experience to desktop users in the United Kingdom starting today. While desktop users get first dibs on the new tools, the rollout is slated to hit iOS devices in the region starting next month.
If you are a UK user who has been patiently waiting to get your hands on Google’s built-in browsing assistant, here is a look at what just unlocked for your browser.
Deep Workspace integration without switching tabs
The real superpower of having Gemini baked directly into Chrome is that it eliminates the need to constantly bounce between different tabs and web apps. The AI assistant sits ready to help you summarize incredibly lengthy articles or pull specific comparisons across multiple open tabs.
More importantly, it is deeply tied into the Google ecosystem. Without ever leaving your current webpage, you can ask the personalized assistant to:
- Check location details and directions via Google Maps
- Draft a quick email response through Gmail
- Instantly schedule a meeting in Google Calendar
- Answer highly specific questions about a YouTube video you are currently watching
The assistant also features persistent memory, meaning it can remember the context of your past conversations to deliver highly tailored answers as you continue searching across the web.
Nano Banana 2 and built-in security guardrails
Beyond text and workflow automation, this update also brings some serious visual flair to the UK. The rollout officially includes Google’s Nano Banana 2 capabilities, allowing users to effortlessly transform images on the web using simple, natural language text prompts.
Of course, giving an AI assistant deep access to your browser and personal workspace requires strict security. Google notes that these models have been explicitly trained to recognize and block known vulnerabilities like prompt injection attacks. Furthermore, the assistant features hardcoded safeguards that will always ask for your explicit confirmation before it attempts to complete any sensitive actions, keeping your data locked down.
If you are in the UK, make sure your Chrome desktop browser is fully updated today to start testing out the new tools, and keep an eye out for the mobile expansion hitting iOS in the coming weeks.
