Google is taking a massive step in transforming your mobile browser from a simple window for viewing web pages into an active AI assistant.

According to a recent announcement, Gemini in Chrome is officially rolling out to all Android users in the U.S. While AI page summaries have been testing in various channels for a while, this public rollout brings full multimodal Gemini integration directly into your everyday browsing routine: including on-page image generation and a powerful new agentic browsing feature designed to handle multi-step web tasks on your behalf.

What Gemini in Chrome can do on Android

Once the update hits your device, you’ll be able to summon Gemini directly from the top bar in Chrome by tapping the Gemini sparkle icon or through the standard three-dot overflow menu (⋮). From there, Gemini acts as an overlay assistant for whatever you’re viewing:

  • Instant Web Page Summaries & Q&A: Condense massive articles, research papers, or recipe blogs into clear bullet points, or ask specific follow-up questions about the page content without manually skimming through thousands of words.
  • Direct Google Workspace Connections: Gemini connects straight to apps like Google Calendar and Google Keep right inside the browser. If you’re looking at an event schedule or a flight confirmation, you can tell Gemini to add it to your calendar or jot down notes without jumping back and forth between separate apps.
  • On-the-Go Image Generation: The assistant includes on-device creative tools, letting you customize and generate images on the fly with Nano Banana directly within Chrome.

Auto Browse agentic AI handles tedious web tasks

The standout addition in this rollout is Auto Browse, an agentic AI capability currently rolling out to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers on Android in the U.S.

Rather than just summarizing text, Auto Browse actively navigates web workflows for you. According to Google’s Auto Browse documentation, the tool is designed to execute multi-step, repetitive online chores, such as:

  • Finding and booking parking spots for an upcoming concert or sporting event.
  • Updating recurring online orders or subscription deliveries across retail sites.
  • Researching, organizing, and booking travel logistics for an upcoming trip.

Built-in security against prompt injection

Letting an AI agent navigate the live web on your behalf naturally raises security questions. Malicious websites could theoretically try to hide invisible instructions to trick an AI agent into sharing personal data or making unauthorized actions (known as prompt injection).

Google emphasizes that these features are built to be secure by design. In a technical breakdown on architecting security for agentic browsing, Google details how its underlying models are trained to detect and block prompt injection attempts before they execute.

Furthermore, Auto Browse includes built-in friction checkpoints: the system is designed to pause and explicitly ask for user confirmation before completing any sensitive actions, ensuring you always maintain final control over transactions and personal details.

How to check if you have it

The rollout is actively deploying to Android users across the United States. To see if Gemini in Chrome is live on your device:

  1. Open Chrome on your Android phone or tablet.
  2. Look for the Gemini sparkle icon in the top address bar.
  3. If you don’t see the icon yet, tap the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top right corner to check for Gemini options.

Make sure your Chrome app is updated to the latest build in the Google Play Store to catch the server-side switch as it reaches your account!
