Interactive flat panels (IFPs) have become a staple in classrooms and boardrooms, but they often come with clunky, proprietary software and can become outdated quickly. In a fantastic new product announcement, CTL is introducing a powerful and practical solution to this problem: the CTL Chromebox OPS OPx1-3.

This new device isn’t a traditional desktop Chromebox. It’s a specialized, compact computer designed in the Open Pluggable Specification (OPS) form factor. This means it’s a small, standardized module that can slot directly into the back of most existing interactive displays, instantly transforming them into a native, manageable, and secure ChromeOS device.

Breathing new life into old hardware

The brilliance of this product is its ability to give new life to outdated interactive displays. Many schools and businesses have invested heavily in large touch panels only to find that the built-in “smart” features are slow, unsupported, or insecure. The CTL Chromebox OPS bypasses all of that. By simply plugging this module into the standard OPS port on the back of the display, you get a full-fledged, powerful ChromeOS experience, leveraging the entire Google ecosystem of apps and management tools.

It’s a fantastic solution that can save organizations a ton of money and prevent a massive amount of e-waste by upgrading the brains of their existing displays instead of replacing the entire unit.

A powerful and well-connected package

This isn’t a low-end solution, either. The CTL Chromebox OPS is a powerful machine, built to drive demanding applications and brilliant 4K displays. It comes equipped with:

  • A fast Intel Core i3-1315U processor
  • 8GB of RAM
  • A speedy 256GB SSD
  • Wi-Fi 6E and a 2.5G Ethernet port
  • A massive selection of ports, including multiple USB-A, USB-C, and HDMI 2.0a

This is a robust and well-thought-out device that satisfies a huge emerging need for schools and businesses. It enhances security, dramatically simplifies IT management through the Google Admin Console, and lowers the total cost of ownership for any organization that uses interactive displays, digital signs, or kiosks; and it is set to be available for order this quarter from one of the most trusted names in the ChromeOS space.
