Building a great slide deck manually is easily one of the most time-consuming parts of any workflow. From gathering data across scattered documents to fiddling with slide formatting and color schemes, getting a presentation ready for a meeting often takes hours of tedious work.
Google is aiming to streamline that process significantly. According to a new post on the Google Workspace Blog, the company is officially rolling out full presentation generation capabilities directly inside Google Slides powered by Gemini.
From concept to slide deck in minutes
Instead of starting from a blank canvas, users can now launch Gemini right from slides.new or open the assistant in the side panel of a presentation. From there, you simply describe what you need and attach your reference materials, including Google Docs, Sheets, PDFs, or previous slide decks.
To ensure the output stays true to your company’s identity, you can select an existing deck as a style reference, prompting Gemini to automatically match your established branding.
During the initial setup, Gemini guides you through an interactive process, asking clarifying questions about your preferred length, tone, and focus. It will even suggest relevant files from Google Drive that you might have missed. From those inputs, Gemini builds an interactive outline for you to review and approve before generating a single slide, keeping you in the driver’s seat from start to finish.
Conversational editing and natural language tweaks
Once Gemini builds the initial presentation, every element remains completely editable. Rather than clicking through individual text boxes or manually adjusting layouts, you can use natural language prompts in the side panel to iterate dynamically with the AI.
You can instruct Gemini to tweak specific layouts, swap out color palettes, update generated charts, or rewrite text blocks to sound more concise or professional. Whether you need to fix a single bullet point or overhaul the aesthetic of an entire section, you can handle it through quick text commands.
Availability and rollout
The new presentation creation features in Google Slides are available starting today for Google Workspace customers on Business and Enterprise Standard and Plus plans, as well as individual users with Google AI Pro or AI Ultra subscriptions. The features are launching initially in English.
If you spend a chunk of your workweek assembling decks, jumping over to slides.new to test out Gemini’s new workflow could save you a serious amount of time.
