Google is bringing a couple of useful shortcuts from the desktop version of Chrome over to the mobile New Tab Page (NTP). Rolling out now, users on Chrome for Android and iOS will start seeing two new pill-shaped buttons directly below the main search bar.
Quick access to AI Mode and Incognito
These new buttons provide quick access to two frequently used features:
- Incognito: This shortcut offers a faster way to open a new private browsing tab compared to digging into the three-dot overflow menu.
- AI Mode: Tapping this button will launch you directly into Google’s AI search experience at
google.com/AI.

These additions mirror the shortcuts that were added to the desktop Chrome New Tab Page back in July. For those who frequently use Incognito mode or are diving into Google’s AI search features, these buttons are a convenient time-saver. On the desktop, the AI Mode shortcut on the NTP has become a primary way many users access the feature, and it’s great to see that same convenience arrive on mobile.
This UI update moves the row of website favicons and the Discover feed further down the page. It’s a clean design that aligns the mobile NTP more closely with the look of the main Google app search bar.
This change is rolling out now with Chrome version 141 and newer for both Android and iOS. Keep an eye out for these handy new shortcuts to appear on your New Tab Page soon.
