Great news for user of Google’s Chrome web browser. In an upcoming release of the wildly popular browser, Chromium developers have stated the update will bring as much as a 50% reduction of RAM usage over the current Chrome 53 version.
The specific enhancements come to us in the form of an update to the V8 JavaScript Engine. JavaScript is at the heart of many of today’s websites and can be responsible for draining device resources on PC and mobile devices alike.
The Chrome 55 update, scheduled for early December, will see its most significant impact on Chrome for Android and devices that have less than 1GB of RAM.
If you’re a Chromebook user like us, this may be worth a little excitement. We have seen continual improvement of RAM management with every update of Chrome OS. This, combined with optimization of the Chrome browser, will surely make the resource management experience even more beautiful.
Another plus is the possibility of battery life improvements. With all of the new devices coming in the convertible form-factor, battery life is a huge hot button for consumers.
Better RAM management means less power consumption.
That is a good, good thing.
