Chrome is still smashing the competition, commanding nearly 72% of the desktop browser market

According to the latest desktop market share data from Statcounter (via NeoWin) for the month of September 2025, Google Chrome has not only widened its massive lead, but has also surged to a new, all-time high.

This impressive growth comes at a time when all the major browsers are racing to integrate AI, and it’s a clear sign that Google’s strategy is resonating with users in a big way.

The staggering numbers

The latest report shows Chrome’s desktop market share has jumped to a whopping 71.86%, a significant 2.6-point increase in just a single month. This growth appears to have come directly at the expense of its main competitors, who all saw their share decline. Here’s how the desktop browser market looked at the end of September:

• Google Chrome: 71.86%
• Microsoft Edge: 10.37%
• Apple Safari: 5.69%
• Mozilla Firefox: 4.93%

While Microsoft Edge holds onto a distant second place, both it and Safari saw notable drops. Perhaps most significantly, this new data shows Mozilla’s Firefox slipping below the 5% mark for the first time in a long while.
