This weeks spotlight is a very “charitable” extension that will let you donate to your favorite organization by just shopping on line like you normally would. Smile Wide is a Chrome extension that automatically turns non-affiliate Amazon links into Amazon Smile links.

Amazon Smile is an initiative from Amazon that donates 0.5% of all eligible online purchases for their site to the charity of your choice. Using Amazon Smile is simple and you can shop with your current Amazon account.

The Smile Wide extension will redirect traditional Amazon links to the Smile URL where you can sign in, chose a charity from over 1 million organizations, shop and give. The percentage donated comes directly from Amazon meaning you get the products you want at no extra cost and your favorite non-profit benefits.

I was very impressed with the list of available charities. We have a local soup kitchen here in our small town and even they were listed. You can change your charity at any time as often as you wish. Items eligible will be marked with “Eligible for AmazonSmile donation” on the product page.

I have had the chance to speak with the developer of the Smile Wide was pleasantly surprised to find this extension was created for the sole purpose of benefiting local and national charities. In today’s digital ecosystem you’re hard-pressed to find products and services that aren’t designed for the personal gain of the creator. Smile Wide is one of the rare exceptions. This extension will redirect to Amazon Smile and that’s it. It does not monetize the developer in any way. That is a breathe of fresh air, indeed.

Smile Wide is not affiliated with Amazon in any way. It’s just a great guy trying to make the world a little better 0.5% at a time. Hats off to you.

You can find the Smile Wide extension in the Chrome Web Store and start giving today.
