Mac users will feel a little more at home using Chrome thanks to an upcoming addition to version 59 of the browser. Mac OS has its own notification system and I won’t lie, it’s quite attractive. It almost has a Chrome-esque feel to it already. Chrome’s native notifications are clean and simple but lack the Material Design feel that rest of Google’s products are acquiring.
According to the Chromium developer blog:
Chrome has historically included its own notification system for web and extension developers to send notifications to users. In response to macOS introducing its own rich notification system, many users have asked for the two systems to be integrated.
You can see from the images about that the new notification on the right has a much more native look and should create a better overall user experience for Chrome on Mac. Developers can learn more about migrating to native notifications in the migration guide from Google developers.
The estimated release date for Chrome 59 is June 6th. The desktop version for Mac, Linux and Windows are generally the first to roll out with Android and Chrome OS following suit.
