Advanced Info Service (AIS) of Bangkok has announced what could be a game-changing move for the provider of mobile services and digital content in Thailand. Sources report that AIS has recently finalized a deal that makes them the first authorized dealer for Google’s Chromecast digital streaming dongle.
Truvision, AIS’s, major competitor has recently dropped HBO from their channel line-up and announced more networks would be hitting the chopping block this year. AIS has picked up the ball and are hoping to score by adding HBO to their VOD service which can be streamed to Chromecasts via computer, Android or iOS devices.
Other networks coming to AIS include Cinemax, Fox Movie, FX, Star World, National Geographic, Nat Geo Wild, Nat Geo People and more.
In a country where video piracy is prevalent, this move by AIS hopes to bring new level of legal consumer usage by offering affordable streaming services.
Currently, the Chromecast 2 is available from AIS for 1490 baht (apx. $42.50 USD) but no official date has been announced for the VOD service.
