Google officially opened pre-orders for the long-awaited $99 Google Home Speaker this week, a purpose-built Gemini audio hub for your house. While the upgraded local processing and hardware improvements are notable selling points on their own, the company tucked a promotion into the fine print. Anyone who purchases the new smart speaker before September 30, 2026, will receive a six-month trial of the Google Home Premium Standard plan at no additional cost.

This promotion effectively adds a $60 value to a device that only costs $99 out the door, and it unlocks what is undeniably the killer feature here: Gemini Live. Having natural, free-flowing conversations has the potential to completely change the smart home dynamic, and it’s an addition I think a lot of buyers are going to absolutely love. The fact that this AI capability is baked right into the new hardware—and fully unlocked for half a year out—makes this speaker an incredibly compelling upgrade over aging Nest hardware.

As part of the Home Premium Standard plan, you also get Help me create to automate your home by just describing what you want to do, and sound detection that can pick up smoke/carbon monoxide alarms or even the sound of glass breaking.

As with any promotional trial, there are a few stipulations to keep in mind. First, the offer is limited to new subscribers, meaning current Google Home Premium users or those already utilizing a free trial are entirely excluded. Next, to claim the six free months, eligible buyers simply need to redeem the offer during device setup in the Google Home app, or locate it later in the app’s settings or the Google Store subscriptions page. Lastly, the offer is limited to one trial per household, and returning the purchased speaker will void the active subscription.

If you choose to cancel your subscription after the trial window closes, the advanced Premium features will be completely disabled, and the voice assistant on the hardware will automatically downgrade to a more basic version of Gemini for Home. However, users who are currently subscribed to the Google AI Pro or Ultra plans will automatically get access to Google Home Premium Standard at no extra cost. And if you are on the top-tier AI Ultra plan, you will also get access to Google Home Premium Advanced for free.

Overall, this offer is a solid added value that makes an already compelling $99 smart speaker an incredibly easy recommendation. You can pre-order the Google Home Speaker right now at Best Buy and Walmart.
