In a move that caught us a bit by surprise, Acer—a company we know for its laptops, monitors, and Chromebooks—has just announced a new streaming device: the Acer 4K UHD Google TV Box. This new entry into the Google TV space, also called the “AiTV,” is a budget-friendly streamer that stands out from the crowd with one killer feature: an incredible selection of ports.
All the ports you could want
While the trend for most streaming devices has been to ditch physical ports, Acer has gone in the complete opposite direction. This is a port-lover’s dream, packed with connectivity options that are rare to see on a device in this category. Onboard you’ll find:
- A USB-A port
- A USB-C port (for data)
- A second USB-C port (for power)
- An HDMI port
- An Ethernet jack
- An optical audio port
- A microSD card slot
This fantastic array of I/O gives you the flexibility to connect external storage, use a wired internet connection, and hook up to older sound systems with ease, making it a far more versatile hub for your entertainment center.
A look at the specs
Under the hood, the Acer AiTV is a bit of a mixed bag. On the plus side, it comes with a generous 32GB of internal storage, which is great for a budget-friendly device. It’s powered by an Amlogic S905X5M processor and includes Wi-Fi 6.
However, the device comes with only 2GB of RAM, which is on the low side for a new streaming box in 2025 and could be a performance bottleneck for some users. The included remote is Google’s familiar reference design, complete with shortcut buttons for popular services like YouTube and Netflix.
Price and availability
Acer has priced its new Google TV box very competitively at around $80 USD. For that price, the combination of a fantastic port selection and 32GB of storage is compelling.
However, there is one big catch: for now, the Acer AiTV has only been announced for South Africa, with no word yet on a wider global release. We’re certainly hoping that Acer decides to bring this versatile and budget-friendly box to more markets in the near future.
