The Acer Chromebook R 13 is becoming the poster child for the new wave of convertible Chromebooks with Android App support on board.
Unveiled a little over a month ago at IFA, the device is getting close to seeing full-scale release. But before you hit that order button, there are some things you need to know about your chosen reseller.
Right now on Acer’s website, you see 6 resellers ready to take your order. Of the six, as of this article, 5 of them show availability as ‘in stock’ and shipping within a day or two. CDW shows a lead time of 4 days. Below you’ll find the updated list and links.
Where To Buy The R 13 Right Now
Interestingly, three of the sites (CDW, PCM and Insight) have the device listed with 8GB of RAM. Though we would love to see the option, don’t count on it. This board is made for 4GB of RAM and Acer’s site shows the same as well. The only real optional upgrade here is 64GB vs. 32GB of internal storage.
We have one reader who says he ordered on October 1st and has received a tracking number. We’ve reached out to see if the shipment happened or not. The only reason we remain a bit dubious at this point (of the resellers, not our reader) is the big resellers like Amazon, B&H, and Adorama still show the device in a pre-order status. While that could be due to larger stock not yet being available for these larger outlets, it makes us a bit skeptical to say the least. When/if we hear back from our reader, we’ll update the article.
While we hope these smaller outlets deliver on their promises, there have been times in the past where early releases don’t ship as quickly as expected.
Let’s Talk About Returns
If you are inclined to order from these sites, also consider the return options. Places like Amazon, B&H, Adorama, Walmart or Jet have very lenient policies that will allow you to return the device if it simply doesn’t fit your needs or meet your expectations. Many of the above-listed resellers have very difficult policies to work with. Many come with a 15% or 20% restock fees and may require a phone call or two to get the return initiated. The necessity of restock fee isn’t always clear, either.
Buyer beware here. We’ll link the return policies below as they are a bit difficult to find so you can sort through them yourself.
Good luck getting your hands on this one! Let us know in the comments if you’ve ordered and when you are hoping to see your R 13.
