The much anticipated Acer Chromebook R 13 is now up and available for pre-sale on a number of sites. Originally debuted at IFA in Berlin, the Acer R 13 is the first Chromebook to use the MediaTek MT8173 ARM® Cortex® processor. The preliminary impressions of the new 13″ convertible are quite pleasing. But, we are looking forward to seeing first hand what this new MediaTek powered Chromebook can do. Will the R 13 live up to the IFA hype?
A quick refresher on the specs(just in case you lost track amid all the new devices that are on the way):
- MediaTek MT8173C Quad-core ARM® Cortex®
- 13.3″ Full HD IPS Touch Display(1920×1080)
- 4GB LPDDR3
- 16/32/64 GB Storage
- HDMIx1/USB-Cx2
- Battery Life up to 12 hours
For the full specs and photo gallery check out Acer’s site.
Currently, Acer doesn’t list any re-sellers on the R 13 landing page. But, we have found a few trusted sites that have the convertible up for pre-sale already. The original MSRP was suspected to be $399 and we presumed that would be for the base 16GB model. Below you will find a few listings for the Acer R 13. The prices vary based on seller and options. But, you can see those prices fall right in line with what we heard a few weeks ago. A pleasant, and hopefully accurate, surprise is that the 64GB model is listed on B&H for only $429.

While there are no lead-times showing for shipping on these sites, we can presume and hope to see it shipping sometime in the next 2-3 weeks. Check back soon for the unboxing of the Acer Chromebook R 13 and full review. In the meantime you can see a little of the R 13 in action from Robby’s article earlier this month.
