Google continues to subtly enhance the Pixel experience, and two recent updates to the Pixel Weather app, (version 1.0.20250127.729684887) showcase the fact that tiny changes can really make for a larger impact on UI.
First up, Google has added dates beneath each day in the 10-day forecast. This simple inclusion significantly improves the clarity of the forecast, allowing users to quickly correlate weather predictions with specific calendar days. It’s a great addition to the overall user experience, and though small, it really does address a real frustration by making the app more intuitive.
Secondly, Google has streamlined the process of saving new locations. A new “Save” button now appears when viewing the weather for your current location, enabling users to effortlessly add it to their saved locations list. This eliminates the previous, more cumbersome method of manually searching for and adding locations. This is a real efficiency boost for those who frequently track weather in multiple areas.
Beyond these two updates, there’s also an indication of an even more localized enhancement: snowfall forecasts. Reports from SmartDroid (via 9to5 Google) suggest that a new card displaying hourly snowfall estimates, intensity, and timing is appearing in some instances.
This card, which they also observed in the Google app’s weather experience and Search, offers detailed snowfall predictions like we see with rainfall. While I’ve not yet replicated this on my Pixel, it hints at a potentially broader roll-out of enhanced weather data.
Even without the snowfall addition, I know I’ll lean on the first two new additions on a very regular basis moving forward. And these are the types of software updates I absolutely love – iterative, creature-comfort changes that just make things a bit simpler to interact with. As an app overall, Google Weather has continually done this, and I look forward to more of it in the future for sure.
