At its annual Made on YouTube event, Google just unveiled a powerful new suite of generative AI features that are designed to make creating content on the platform more playful and effortless than ever before. This is a massive leap forward for mobile video creation, putting some of Google DeepMind’s most advanced AI models directly into the hands of millions of creators.

Free, powerful video generation with Veo 3 in Shorts

The headline feature is the integration of Veo 3, Google’s most powerful video generation model, directly into YouTube Shorts. A custom, fast version of the model is now available for free, allowing you to generate short video clips—and for the first time, with sound—directly from a simple text prompt on your phone. This is rolling out now in the U.S., UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

But that’s just the start. In the coming months, YouTube will be experimenting with even more Veo capabilities in Shorts, including the ability to add motion to still photos by applying a motion from another video, stylize your entire video with looks like pop art or origami, and add objects to your scene with a text description.

AI that can edit for you and even turn speech into a song

For creators who find starting a video from a blank timeline daunting, YouTube is introducing Edit with AI. This new feature takes your raw camera roll footage and automatically creates a compelling first draft. It intelligently finds and arranges your best moments, adds music, transitions, and even a playful voiceover that can react to what’s happening in the video. It’s a huge time-saver that lets you jump straight to personalizing your video.

And in what might be the most fun new tool, Speech to Song is a new remixing feature that can take dialogue from eligible videos and, using the Lyria 2 AI music model, turn it into a catchy soundtrack for your next Short. You can even add a vibe to the song, like “chill” or “danceable.”

This is a massive drop of powerful, creative AI tools that will fundamentally change how people create content for YouTube. By putting some of its most advanced technology directly into the YouTube app for free, Google is unlocking a whole new level of creativity for millions of users.
