It looks like Walmart is finally ready to start selling its latest, affordable Google TV streaming device. After surfacing last month and appearing ready for release at any moment, the new Onn 4K Plus streamer is now beginning to pop up on physical store shelves, giving us another look at the device and confirming a very cool feature: USB-C hub support.
Earlier this month, a Walmart listing pegged the Onn 4K Plus at a very budget-friendly $29.88. While that specific listing was quickly pulled down, it was pretty clear that a launch was right around the corner. Now, just as expected, units are physically appearing in local Walmart stores.
As spotted by u/PracticalRanger5977 on Reddit (via 9to5 Google), some Walmart locations have already placed the Onn 4K Plus on their shelves. The device carries the expected $29.88 price tag and, in at least one Iowa store, was positioned alongside Roku devices, Google’s own Chromecast with Google TV, and Walmart’s existing Onn 4K Pro and standard Onn 4K models.
This in-store appearance ahead of actual online availability is a normal (and odd) pattern for Walmart’s own hardware launches. If you ask me, it’s a pretty messy way of doing things, but it has most definitely happened before. If old patterns are followed, we expect wider online and in-store availability is likely coming over the next week or so.
USB-C dock
In addition to the device hitting store shelves, YouTuber SuperDell-TV managed to get his hands on an Onn 4K Plus unit and confirms it will actually work with USB-C docks to expand connectivity to external peripherals. He tested a USB-C dongle to add Ethernet connectivity, and things seemed to work just fine.
Furthermore, a look at the software reveals the expected Android 14, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage (of which about 11GB is usable). During the same live stream, the device was also confirmed to support Google TV’s new, convenient QR code-based setup flow.
While there’s still no official release date for the Onn 4K Plus, its appearance in stores strongly suggests it should be any day now. When it does officially go on sale, expect it to show up on Walmart’s website alongside their other Onn streaming devices. For under $30, especially with the added flexibility of USB-C, this is shaping up to be another compelling, budget-friendly option for anyone looking to add some smarts to their television.
