We had a pretty large turnover in Chromebook deals this week. One of the bigger deals that has been going for quite some time – $75 off the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook Plus – finally ended at both Best Buy and Samsung’s own website. In light of that, I fully expected the biggest discount ever on the Acer Chromebook Plus 516 GE to be gone as of Monday morning as well; and it wasn’t.
Instead, this lowest-ever price of $419 actually stuck around, and it looks like we’ll be seeing it at least stay put again this week. Lately, Chromebook deals have been a bit less structured, so I don’t want to promise anything; but the fact that this deal stuck around through to this morning tells me it might be here to stay at least for the week.
And let me remind you, with the Acer Chromebook Plus 516 GE, you are getting a whole lot of Chromebook for $419. Regularly priced at $649, this deal represents a wild $230 is savings, and it’s on a Chromebook that I feel is worth the standard MSRP on any given day.
Most of that is due to the screen on this device. Measuring at 16-inches, the QHD 2560×1600 screen stands at a 16:10 aspect ratio, gets plenty bright (350+ nits) and is buttery smooth with a 120Hz refresh rate. No, it isn’t a touchscreen, but many Chromebook users these days find they don’t rely too heavily on touch input to get things done. I count myself in that camp for sure.
Then you have the chassis that is large (obviously) but completely rigid and just 3.75 pounds. For a 16-inch Chromebook, that is impressive. And it houses a fun, RGB backlit keyboard, upward-firing speakers, a huge OceanGlass trackpad, lots of ports, and a very fast Intel Core 5-120U processor. Paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and you have a very formidable, very excellent overall Chromebook package.
And it’s all at the lowest price we’ve ever seen – at least for a few more days. This is one of those deals I’d tell you to make sure you don’t miss. We’ve actually only had solid deal prices on this device a few times, and never this steep. At $419, I don’t see any way any user would be disappointed in this excellent Chromebook.
