With the exciting launch of the Pixel 7 series last week, you’d be forgiven not to know that there was a whole other Google event taking place. The event was Google Cloud Next ’22, which is considered Google’s flagship event of the year and where people interested in the cloud can learn from one another and be motivated to solve today’s pressing business problems and tomorrow’s ingenious Cloud-based solutions.
At this event, several announcements were made, including improvements to Smart Canvas in Google Workspace, which we have covered at length here on this site. These particular improvements tackle more ways to be productive in Google Sheets by introducing the ability to quickly add Google Drive files or Calendar events directly into a Google Sheet as a smart chip.
You can insert a chip in a Google Sheet by typing “@” in a cell. This will be followed by a drop-down where you can choose between inserting a people chip, files, or calendar events. Depending on what you want to insert, select the appropriate option. You can also paste a Google Drive file link directly in the cell as well, then select “Convert to file chip.”
These features have no admin control and began their rollout on October 11, 2022 for Rapid Release domains and on October 25, 2022 for Scheduled Release domains. Both release schedules will have a gradual rollout of up to two weeks. Additionally, the features will be available to all Google Workspace customers, including those with personal accounts.
