In a new official blog post detailing the design philosophy behind its foldables, Samsung is setting the stage for its next Unpacked event and continuing its teaser campaign. The message is clear and consistent: the new Galaxy Z series (the Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7) will be “Thin, Light, and Built to Last.”
This new marketing push, which follows last week’s confirmation of “Ultra performance,” aims to paint a picture of devices that are not only powerful but also more refined and portable than ever before.
Thinner, lighter, and more durable
In the post, Samsung frames this evolution as a direct response to user needs, harkening back to the original 2019 Galaxy Fold. Their goal then was to merge a large screen with true portability. Now, they say the drive for a thinner and lighter device is the next logical step in that journey, aiming to make the foldable “as easy to carry as it is to use.”
To drive the point home, the post culminates in a bold statement: “The newest Galaxy Z series is the thinnest, lightest and most advanced foldable yet – meticulously crafted and built to last.” They also shared a GIF that gives a sneak peek of what appears to be the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold, showcasing a device that looks impressively thin when both folded and unfolded.

The shadow of the S25 Edge
While a thinner, sleeker foldable sounds fantastic on paper, it’s also reasonable to have some skepticism. Ann ultra-thin design often comes with compromises, and the most recent example is Samsung’s own Galaxy S25 Edge. That device is being marketed on its slim profile, but recent reports have indicated the phone has not sold as well as anticipated, with concerns swirling around its battery life – a common sacrifice made to achieve a thinner chassis.
This issue casts a bit of a shadow over the “thinnest ever” claims for the new Z series. The big question now is whether Samsung has managed to engineer a super-slim foldable that doesn’t compromise on battery endurance or overall durability. It’s a tough balancing act, and it will be the number one thing reviewers will be watching for when these devices are officially unveiled.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m definitely excited to see Samsung push the design envelope for its foldables. A super-thin and light Galaxy Z Fold 7 could be an amazing device, and I still love my Z Fold 5. But I’m approaching this one with a healthy dose of cautious optimism. We’ll know soon enough whether or not Samsung gets it right or not with the delicate balance of aesthetics and battery life.
