I don’t get too excited about accessory deliveries these days. Most times I have a package on the way with something in it from a company like Ringke, its for a new phone and it is likely going to be a case that looks, feels and performs just as I’d expect it to. That’s not to say phone cases from Ringke haven’t been superb over the years: they simply don’t spur super-anticipated events when they show up. I know what I’m getting, I’m happy about it, but there’s no mystery in the delivery.
These new polycarbonate Pixel Watch Slim Cases, on the other hand, have been laced with excitement. With the Pixel Watch being new, cases, screen covers, and watch bands will all be a bit of the adventurous Wild West as they arrive. Pictures and product descriptions only go so far for new tech accessories, and most times, the actual experience of using it is the only way you find out if its any good or not.
Such is the situation with these new Ringke Slim Cases for the Pixel Watch. I knew it would be on the way soon, but our recent travels kept me a bit out of the loop and I had no idea before this morning that mine had even shipped out. Much to my surprise, they were on the doorstep of the office right around lunch and I’ve now had one of these cases slapped on my Pixel Watch ever since.
I’m very happy to report that the fit, ease of removal, and look of these cases is everything I hoped it would be. I do prefer the clear case as my watch has the black bezels and silver bottom, but the black version looks decent as well. The clear case retains more of the original look/feel of the Pixel Watch in my opinion, so that’s the one I’m sticking with right now.
While the case covers a bit of the digital crown, it is still fully usable, as are the buttons, speakers, microphones and even the quick-swap band change buttons. In use thus far, the Slim Case doesn’t really get in the way at all and really does feel like it will protect my watch from the standard dings and dents that simple, daily wear will put it through.
Does my Pixel Watch look as sweet and luxurious with the case on as it does without it? No, but you are fooling yourself if you think that is possible. I think my plan down the road will be to wear the clear case daily and perhaps remove it when I put on the metal band from Ringke for the occasional dressed up affair. As much as I want my Pixel Watch to look great on my arm in its naked fashion, I also want it to stay there for as long as possible. Like my phone, I’d rather not leave that to chance, and these slim cases are – for the time being – the best way to give myself that peace of mind.
