If you were following the news last week, you know that the initial rollout of Android 14 for Walmart’s Onn 4K and Onn 4K Pro streaming boxes did not go well. After multiple reports surfaced of the update bricking devices, the rollout was understandably halted. Thankfully, it looks like a revised, safer update is finally making its way to these affordable and capable Google TV devices.

As reported over on Reddit, a new, revised Android 14 build is now rolling out as an over-the-air (OTA) update. This fix applies not only to the Onn 4K and Onn 4K Pro boxes but also appears to be heading to the older Onn Stick as well. For those with the Onn 4K Pro, the new update arrives as build number “URO1.250103.029.C1” and weighs in at a hefty 0.91 GB.

Crucially, this new build is reportedly available to all users of these devices, including those who managed to install the first, problematic Android 14 update.

So, is it safe to install this Android 14 build?

This is the big question on everyone’s mind, and all signs point to yes. While it’s still early, the initial feedback from users who have installed this new build has been positive. Most importantly, there have been no new widespread reports of the update bricking devices, which was the critical issue that caused the original rollout to be pulled. While we can’t be 100% certain that every minor bug from the first release has been squashed, this revised version certainly seems to have fixed the most severe problem.

It looks like owners of the Onn 4K Pro, Onn 4K, and Onn Stick can now head to their device settings and install this new Android 14 build without the fear of ending up with a paperweight.
