When I first played around with Lyria 3 in the Gemini app, I felt like it was an impressive bar trick, but not much more at the time. It was fun to generate 30-second clips, but it lacked the depth needed for actual creative projects.
Google clearly had more in the tank, because they announced Lyria 3 Pro for nearly every tier of the Google ecosystem last month, and it isn’t just a minor tweak; it’s a fundamental shift from sound bites to soundtracks. And it is finally beginning to roll out to the majority of Gemini users.
From 30 seconds to 3 minutes
The biggest change in the Pro model is the duration. You are no longer capped at a half-minute teaser. Lyria 3 Pro can now generate tracks up to three minutes long.
Whether you need a full backing track for a YouTube video, a consistent loop for a presentation, or just want to hear a complete AI-generated composition, the three-minute window makes this a viable tool for actual creators.
Directing the Song
What makes Lyria 3 Pro truly “Pro” is its new structural awareness. Instead of just giving the AI a vibe and hoping for the best, the model now understands the components of a song. You can actually prompt for specific elements, including:
- Intros
- Verses
- Choruses
- Bridges
This level of control allows you to act more like a producer, shaping the flow of the track to match the emotional arc of your project. Initially, these Pro features were locked behind the highest-tier Enterprise and Education accounts. However, Google just announced that Lyria 3 Pro is now rolling out to:
- Business Starter
- Education Fundamentals
- Google AI Plus (Personal Accounts)
- Frontline and Nonprofit editions
If you are over 18 and signed into a Gemini-enabled account, the “Create music” tool in your Gemini app is about to get a whole lot more powerful. The rollout started on April 8th and should be wrapping up today, so if you don’t see the 3-minute option yet, keep checking as it should arrive soon.
