It looks like Google’s entire smart home hardware lineup is about to get a big refresh. A new report from Android Headlines has detailed what appears to be the next generation of Nest Cams, a new Nest Doorbell, and the mysterious new smart speaker Google teased at Made by Google earlier this month. If this report is accurate, we’re in for a few nice upgrades, including sharper cameras, a much smarter speaker, and a major branding change for the Nest subscription service.

Sharper 2K Nest Cams and a new Doorbell

One of the most welcome changes is a rumored bump in resolution for Google’s cameras. The report indicates that both the next-gen battery-powered Nest Cam and its wired, indoor-only counterpart will finally get an upgrade from 1080p to 2K video. The leak also suggests some new colors are in the mix, with the wired version potentially getting a fun “berry” red option.

The new Nest Doorbell is also slated for a 2K upgrade, along with new Gemini-powered “Daily Summaries” that will provide a daily recap of recorded events.

More details on that new Google Home Speaker

Remember that slick new smart speaker that Google teased during the Pixel 10 event? Well, it looks like we now have some details on what it’s packing. According to the report, the new Google Home Speaker will be powered by Gemini (with Gemini Live and Learn with Gemini onboard) and will also feature 360-degree audio.

It’s also rumored to have a “Sound Sensing” feature that can detect specific noises like breaking glass or a smoke alarm and send you an alert, turning the speaker into a home security device. It might also be able to pair with a Google TV streamer for an enhanced audio experience.

This rumored speaker also fits perfectly into Google’s broader home AI strategy. With the recent announcement of “Gemini for Home,” it makes sense that Google wants a new, premier piece of hardware to serve as the flagship showcase for its next-generation assistant.

A big rebrand for Nest Aware

Google is also reportedly planning to finally ditch the Nest branding for its subscription service. The report claims “Nest Aware” will be renamed to “Google Home Premium,” with a new “Google Home Premium Advanced” tier being added as well. This is a logical step in Google’s ongoing effort to unify its smart home products under the single “Google Home” umbrella.

Like always, we have to take all this with a grain of salt until it’s official, but it paints a very exciting picture for the future of Google’s smart home ecosystem!
