Google’s AI video maker Flow just got a massive upgrade with Veo 3.1 and powerful new editing tools

October 16, 2025 By Robby Payne View Comments

It’s been five months since Google blew our minds with Flow, its AI filmmaking tool powered by the impressive Veo video generation model. In that short time, creators have already generated over 275 million videos with the tool. Now, Google is rolling out a massive update that addresses the top user request: more creative control.

Today, Google is introducing Veo 3.1, a more advanced model that brings richer audio and enhanced realism. But the real story is the suite of powerful new editing and creation capabilities coming to Flow that transform it from a simple video generator into a true AI co-editor.

Your AI co-editor has arrived: Insert and Remove objects

This is where the magic really happens. Flow is getting new editing capabilities that let you reimagine and perfect your scenes directly within the tool.

  • Insert: You can now add new elements to any generated scene with a simple prompt. This isn’t just slapping an object on top; Flow now handles complex details like shadows and scene lighting to make the new addition look natural.
  • Remove (coming soon): Even more impressively, you’ll soon be able to take anything out of a scene—an unwanted object, a character, etc.—and Flow will seamlessly reconstruct the background and surroundings, making it look as though the object was never there.

Audio brings your creations to life

Another huge piece of this update is the addition of rich, generated audio to Flow’s existing creation tools. Previously, these features only generated silent video clips. Now, they can create a full audiovisual experience. This includes:

  • “Ingredients to Video”: Use multiple reference images to control characters, objects, and style, and now get a final scene with sound.
  • “Frames to Video”: Provide a start and end image, and Flow will generate a seamless video with audio that bridges the two.
  • “Extend”: Create longer, seamless shots with sound that continue the action from your original clip.

This is a massive upgrade to what is quickly becoming one of the most powerful and accessible AI creative tools we’ve ever had. By moving beyond simple generation and into the realm of granular editing and audio, Google is turning Flow into a serious platform for video storytelling. We can’t wait to see what creators will do with these new tools.
