Google has officially launched a massive set of new features for Google Workspace that aim to solve the creative block problem once and for all. This update isn’t just about a chatbot sitting on the side of your screen, though. Instead, it’s about Gemini becoming a deeply integrated partner that can actually reach into your emails and files to help build finished products for you.

Whether you’re a business user on a Gemini Alpha plan or an individual with a Google AI Ultra or Pro subscription, your creative process is about to get a whole lot smoother.

Google Docs: From blank page to final draft

The “Help me create” experience in Google Docs is moving into its next phase. Instead of just asking for a “blog post about coffee,” you can now provide Gemini with real, personal context.

  • Contextual Drafting: You can now prompt Gemini to “draft a newsletter for our neighborhood association using the meeting minutes from my January HOA meeting and the list of upcoming events.” Gemini will scan your Gmail and Drive, find those specific details, and assemble a coherent first draft that is actually grounded in your data.
  • Style and Format Matching: Two new features help maintain consistency across your work. “Match writing style” analyzes your previous documents to ensure a new draft sounds like you, while “Match doc format” lets you apply the structure of one file to another. For example, you can point Gemini at a favorite itinerary template and ask it to fill it with flight and hotel details found in your recent confirmation emails.

Google Sheets: Pro-level data management

The most technically impressive news comes from Google Sheets. Google is claiming “state-of-the-art” proficiency, noting that Gemini now nears human expert ability in building and managing complex spreadsheets. In fact, it recently achieved a verified 70.48% success rate on the SpreadsheetBench dataset, which specifically tests for real-world spreadsheet manipulation.

  • Autonomous Sheet Building: You can describe a project in plain English—like “organize my upcoming apartment move”—and Gemini won’t just give you a template. It will actively look for utility contact info and moving quotes in your inbox to populate the checklist for you.
  • Fill with Gemini: This tool uses AI reasoning to auto-populate data 9x faster than manual entry. If you’re building a list of colleges to apply to, you can simply drag a column down, and Gemini will use Google Search to fill in real-time details like tuition costs and application deadlines.

Google Slides: A design partner for your story

Google Slides is evolving from a layout tool into a full-fledged design collaborator.

  • Editable Diagrams and Charts: Gemini can now take your rough brainstorm sketches or messy tables and transform them into professional, fully editable diagrams.
  • On-Brand Generation: You can ask Gemini to create a slide that matches your company’s branding, and it will pull context from your other files to ensure the colors, fonts, and tone are consistent with your deck. While the ability to generate a complete 10-slide presentation from a single prompt is still “coming soon,” these individual slide edits are live today.

Google Drive: Your personal knowledge base

Finally, Google Drive is undergoing a massive transformation. It is no longer just a place to store files; it is becoming an active, searchable repository of your personal knowledge.

  • AI Overviews in Search: Much like Google Search, Drive now features “AI Overviews” at the top of your results. When you search for “feedback on the winter project,” Gemini will provide a summarized answer with citations so you don’t have to open five different files to find what you need.
  • Ask Gemini in Drive: You can now select a group of documents—like a year’s worth of tax receipts—and ask complex questions like “What are my total business expenses for Q3?” Gemini will synthesize the data across those files and provide a detailed, cited response right in the side panel.

Availability

These features are rolling out in beta starting today. They are available in English globally for Google AI Ultra and Pro subscribers, as well as Gemini Alpha business customers. Note that the advanced Drive search features are launching first for users based in the US.
