Google TV may soon install and log you into your streaming apps automatically

9to5Google spotted during an APK teardown that Google TV may soon automatically log in to previously connected apps and services to make it easier to get started with a new smart TV or dongle. Today, you can sign in to your different streaming services and music app in the Google Assistant settings, which carries that over to other Google-connected devices such as the Nest Hub or any other Cast-compatible device.

Unfortunately, this convenience stops when you purchase a new Google TV dongle. The service that Google TV provides, which offers recommendations based on what you are subscribed to, will work once you sign in to the dongle with your account, but if you want to browse the full library of content for your streaming apps, you will be required to sign in to each one by one. This can be a very tedious and time-consuming process.

There’s hope, though, as the latest update to the Google TV Setup app (version 1.0.4508) mentions it will use your list of connected subscriptions, automatically download their apps, and, if possible, sign you in to your accounts. Here is the exact wording:

Several apps come with your TV and will be installed during setup: %1$s. Additionally, apps for your subscriptions will also be installed.

App info from devices linked to your Google Account will be used to set up and sign in to these apps on your TV.

As you can infer by the wording above, it sounds like Google TV won’t use the credentials from Google Assistant to sign in. Instead, it will copy data from another device, like your phone, tablet, or TV. This will be a tremendous help for those who are signed up for many streaming services and don’t want to spend unnecessary time logging in to each app.
