Google Meet continues to evolve, and the latest batch of updates is squarely aimed at making the presentation experience smoother, more versatile, and more professional. The highlight feature allows users to directly present content from a secondary camera feed into a meeting: things like document cameras, external production tools, or any other video source. Plus, there are some nice under-the-hood improvements to general screen sharing.

Share more than just your screen

The new ability to present from a camera is a big deal for a variety of users. Instead of just sharing your desktop, a window, or a tab, you can now select an alternative camera source to be your primary presentation feed in Google Meet. This opens up a lot of possibilities:

  • Educators can easily present physical documents, worksheets, or demonstrate hands-on activities using a document camera.
  • Professionals can share live feeds from specialized external video sources, like a microscope in a lab or a high-quality camera for product demos.
  • Organizations can stream produced video content directly into Meet for things like town hall meetings or more polished presentations using external video production tools.

Google notes that presenting content from a camera will support up to 1080p resolution at 30FPS, ensuring a clear and crisp feed for your audience.

Smoother and smarter screen sharing too

Beyond the new camera presentation feature, Google is also rolling out several improvements to the overall screen sharing functionality in Meet:

  • Faster start times: Initiating any type of screen share (desktop, window, or tab) should now be quicker than before.
  • Sharper video quality: Video quality during screen sharing has been enhanced, with better handling of dynamic content like scrolling text or video clips playing within your share.
  • Automatic resume for presentations: To minimize disruptions, if a presenter is interrupted by a second person starting to share, the original presentation will now automatically resume once that second presenter stops. This is a small but thoughtful touch to keep meetings flowing.
  • Updated UI for screen sharing: The screen sharing button itself has been made larger and positioned more intuitively alongside other key meeting controls, making it easier to find when you need it most.

Availability

For administrators, there’s no specific control needed to enable these features; they’ll roll out based on your domain’s release schedule. For end-users, Google has updated its Help Center with more information on how to present content from a camera in Google Meet. Here’s the roll-out plan:

  • Rapid Release domains: A gradual rollout (up to 15 days for full visibility) started on June 4, 2025.
  • Scheduled Release domains: A gradual rollout (up to 15 days for full visibility) will begin on June 11, 2025.

This functionality will be available to a wide range of Google Workspace editions, including Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Standard and Plus, Frontline Standard, Enterprise Essentials and Essentials Plus, Education Plus, users with the Teaching & Learning add-on or Endpoint Education Upgrade, and even Workspace Individual Subscribers.
