Nearly three weeks into the official announcement of the Google Home app’s redesign to roll in the new “Matter” connectivity standard and to make it more customizable, it appears that some of the updates on “Routines” are starting to roll out.
According to reporting from 9to5Google, some users are already starting to see the new “Household” routines that were part of the aforementioned redesign announcement. In the past, only the original creator had access to edit a custom routine. However, now both the “Home” and “Away” routines are household routines by default, ensuring that anyone in the house can create, make changes, or share them with other members of the household.
The Routines page also got a bit of a facelift and now asks whether the new routine you are about to create is a Household or Personal one. Starters have gotten an update as well, with the ability to use a specific time as a starter without it having to be linked to a Google Assistant command, something that I had been waiting on for a long time.

I am personally not seeing new devices pop up for me as actions, however, according to 9to5, devices that they couldn’t see before are beginning to pop up. Still, I am very excited to see even parts of the new experience pop up, as there are quite a bit of improvements yet to come. I am especially eager for the new web-based Nest camera and doorbell experience at home.google.com, which will allow you to view all your feeds from anywhere in the world.
