Yeah, you read that right. Google Home can now help you remember things you’ve long since forgotten.
Not only is it a killer feature, it works incredibly well.
It’s a simple idea, really. We stow things away all the time. Passports, mortgage papers, bank papers, etc.
Long term and short term, we put stuff places. We’re humans and it is what we do.
I don’t know about you, but I’m continually checking my pockets and backpack to determine where my main personal effects are.
Wallet, keys, phone. I keep a short leash on those.
What about those in longer-term storage? If you asked right now where my marriage certificate or passport are, I’d wager a guess. And I’d wager I’d miss.
The Killer Feature
With this new action, Google Home can store and remember things you ask it to.
And it is dead-simple.
You can issue a command like, “Hey Google, remember I put my extra checkbook in the top drawer in my closet.”
Google Home will repeat that back to you and confirm it has been stored.
Next, simply ask, “Hey Google, where did I put my extra checkbook?”
Amazingly, Google can sort what you are talking about from just the partial reference to ‘my checkbook’ and return a resulting answer. In it, the date of the original command is stated, along with the exact words you told Google Home to remember.
The best part is, you can store as many as you like. When you are done with that piece of info, simply say, “Hey Google, forget what I told you about my extra wallet.”
And just like that, it is gone.
This Will Be Crazy Useful
Sure, there are tons of new Actions coming for Google Home every day, but there are few Actions I can see myself really relying on.
This is one of them.
Additionally, this action already works for Google Assistant as well. So all the commands I mentioned above work just fine as long as your phone has Google Assistant built in or via Allo.
