We’ve all been there: you finally craft the perfect AI prompt that gets exactly the result you need – whether it’s a recipe conversion, a code fix, or a complex document summary – only to realize you have to copy, paste, and tweak that same prompt every time you visit a new page.
Google is officially ending that repetitive cycle. Today, they announced Skills in Chrome, a feature that allows you to discover, save, and remix AI workflows so you can repeat them instantly with a single click.
Build your own AI Toolbox
The beauty of Skills is that they live directly within your browsing experience. When you write a prompt in Gemini that you know you’ll want to use again, you can save it as a “Skill” directly from your chat history. Once saved, triggering that workflow is as simple as typing a forward slash (/) in the Gemini side panel and selecting your saved skill.
Your Skill will then run on the page you are currently viewing. You can even select multiple tabs to run the Skill across simultaneously: perfect for comparing specs across different shopping sites or scanning multiple documents at once.
The Skills Library
If you aren’t quite ready to build your own from scratch, Google is also launching a Skills Library. This is a collection of ready-to-use workflows for common tasks like:
- Side-by-side spec comparisons during a shopping session.
- Calculating protein macros for any recipe you find online.
- Scanning lengthy PDFs for specific, high-priority information.
The best part? You can “remix” these library skills. If a pre-made prompt is almost what you need, you can save it to your personal list and edit the prompt to fit your specific workflow.
Privacy and Rollout
Google is emphasizing that Skills are built on the same security foundation as the rest of Chrome. For actions that involve private data (like adding a found date to your calendar or drafting an email) the Skill will always ask for manual confirmation before taking action. The rollout for Skills in Chrome starts today for desktop users (MacOS, Windows and ChromeOS) signed into Gemini with English-US as the set language, but it could take a few days to hit your device, so be patient!
