We all have email subscription problems; the daily deal alerts you signed up for once, the weekly newsletters from blogs you haven’t read in months, and the promotional emails from retailers you bought from years ago can quickly turn a clean inbox into a cluttered mess. While Gmail has always been good at filtering spam, managing the legitimate-but-unwanted email has been a manual, one-by-one process.

But today, Google is rolling out a fantastic new solution. In a new blog post, Google has announced a new “Manage subscriptions” feature in Gmail, designed to help you view and manage all your subscription emails from a single, convenient place.

How ‘Manage subscriptions’ works

This new feature is designed to give you a bird’s-eye view of what’s flooding your inbox so you can take action. According to Google, when you open the new “Manage subscriptions” view, you’ll find a list of your active subscriptions neatly sorted by the most frequent senders. Beside each sender, it will even show you the number of emails they’ve sent you in the past few weeks.

From there, you can click on any of the senders to get a direct view of all the emails they’ve sent you. If you decide you’ve had enough, you can easily unsubscribe with a single click, and Gmail will send an unsubscribe request to the sender on your behalf.

An easier way to take control

This is a huge improvement over hunting down the tiny “unsubscribe” link in individual emails. By consolidating everything and sorting by frequency, Gmail is making it incredibly easy to identify your biggest inbox offenders and cut them off at the source. This new view builds on existing tools like one-click unsubscribe but centralizes them in a far more powerful and user-friendly way.

Where to find it

To get to this new view, you can simply click the navigation bar (the hamburger menu) in the top-left corner of your inbox and select “Manage subscriptions.”

This is a fantastic and much-needed addition to Gmail that gives users more power to declutter their digital lives. The ability to manage subscriptions is rolling out now on the web, Android, and iOS to select countries. Keep an eye out for it!
