As we get closer and closer to the holiday shopping season, our inboxes are about to get a lot busier with order confirmations, shipping notifications, and an avalanche of promotional emails. In a timely and very welcome update, Google is rolling out two new features for Gmail designed to help you stay on top of all that chaos: a brand-new, dedicated view for tracking all your purchases and a smarter way to sort through deals.
Building on the excellent package tracking feature released a few years back, Gmail is now rolling out a dedicated view that brings all of your purchase and delivery updates together in one organized place. This new view acts as a “bird’s eye view” of all your online orders, creating a simple, streamlined list so you can see what’s on the way at a glance.

This doesn’t replace the existing feature that puts a summary card at the top of your inbox for packages arriving soon; Google says it complements it by giving you a permanent, consolidated hub for all your shopping activity. This new view begins rolling out today on both mobile and the web for personal Google accounts.
A smarter, more relevant Promotions tab
Google is also updating the often-chaotic Promotions category in Gmail. Soon, you’ll have the option to sort your promotional emails by “most relevant” instead of just by date. This will surface updates from brands you engage with most, making it easier to see the deals that actually matter to you. Gmail will also incorporate helpful “nudges” to highlight timely offers so you don’t miss out.

And for those of us who prefer a simple chronological list, don’t worry. Google is giving users full control. If you prefer the classic view, you can simply select the option to sort by “most recent.” This update will start rolling out in the coming weeks on mobile.
This follows Gmail’s recent rollout of the fantastic “manage subscriptions” feature that helps users declutter their inboxes. All of these new features just continue to make Gmail a more and more powerful tool for managing our digital lives.
