Just last month, Google launched the Gemini 3 family with the powerful “Pro” and “Deep Think” models. Today, they are expanding the lineup with a model that might actually be the most important one for everyday users: Gemini 3 Flash.

The promise of the “Flash” series has always been speed and low latency, usually at the expense of deep reasoning capabilities. But according to Google, Gemini 3 Flash changes that equation entirely, offering “frontier intelligence built for speed”.

Smarter than the old Pro

The most impressive claim here is that Gemini 3 Flash isn’t just a “lite” version of the new generation. It actually outperforms the previous Gemini 2.5 Pro across a number of benchmarks while being 3x faster.

It hits a massive 90.4% on the GPQA Diamond benchmark (which tests PhD-level reasoning), putting it in the same league as much larger, slower models. Essentially, you are getting the “smartness” of a heavy-duty model with the instant response time of a lightweight one.

Available everywhere, starting today

The best part about this news is that you don’t have to wait to use it.

  • For Everyone: Gemini 3 Flash is rolling out now as the default model in the Gemini app, replacing 2.5 Flash. Whether you are vibe coding a quick app or analyzing a video of your golf swing, you are getting this upgrade for free. It’s also rolling out as the engine behind AI Mode in Google Search.
  • For Developers: It is available in Google AI Studio and the Gemini CLI. Google also mentioned a new agentic development platform called Google Antigravity where developers can use Flash to update production-ready apps.

Why it matters

For a long time, we had to choose between a model that was smart (but slow and expensive) or a model that was fast (but prone to hallucinations). Gemini 3 Flash seems to be the first model that truly blurs that line.

It’s efficient enough to run high-frequency tasks—like real-time video analysis or A/B testing designs—but smart enough to handle complex reasoning without getting confused. And with pricing at just $0.50 per 1 million input tokens, it’s going to be incredibly attractive for developers building the next wave of AI apps.
