It’s getting close to November, and you all know what that means, right? Deals are coming in hot and heavy and with the cooling trends we’ve seen on the backside of the pandemic with regard to Chromebook sales, manufacturers have a lot of inventory they are ready to get rid of. High supply with lower demand means one thing and one thing only: lower prices.
Granted, that tends to be the case with older hardware, not the latest/greatest stuff available, and that’s exactly what we’re looking at today. While the humble Lenovo Chromebook Flex 3 isn’t the best device you can go out and buy, it is a tested, trusted model that covers the basics and gives you a few interesting upgrades.
First, the Flex 3’s screen is far better than what you normally see in this price range. The 1366×768 resolution sounds low, but on an 11.6-inch panel, it’s enough to keep things decently sharp. And as an IPS panel, the viewing angles are far better than the standard TN panels we tend to see on affordable devices. Sure, the bezels are huge, but at least the screen they surround is surprisingly usable.
Additionally, this Chromebook comes with a convertible form factor and a solid keyboard/trackpad combo. You can flip it into tablet mode or presentation mode for consuming content or playing games, and when you need to knock out an email or document, they keyboard is full-sized and usable for longer typing sessions.
Inside, there’s the MediaTek Kompanio 500 (MT8183) that was found in the original Chromebook Duet, so don’t expect lightning-fast performance. With the 4GB of RAM and 64GB of eMMC storage on board, it will get you through most standard tasks just fine and should play many Android games better than expected. With a standard USB Type C port, 2 USB Type A ports, a microSD card slot and headphone/mic jack, connectivity is pretty decent as well.
While the standard $179 MSRP on this Chromebook is pretty decent already, dropping 45% off that already-low price is pretty wild. Any time you can get a usable, worthwhile piece of tech for under $100, it’s an interesting proposition. This Chromebook could be a great fit for a lot of users out there, and at a price this low, you might want to snap one up before it goes away.
