Last week, we stumbled upon evidence (thanks to a reader) of a new Acer Chromebook Plus 516 device that looks to be arriving at any point now. It’s already listed in both the Chromium Dash and in the official device updates list at cros.tech as well, so the next step is to simply see a listing for it somewhere for sale.
In a similar fashion, another new Acer device is emerging from the same sources, and it looks to be a new 14-inch model, aptly named the Acer Chromebook Plus 514. For those of you paying attention, that model sounds very familiar, but this new version looks to be cranking things up a bit versus the 2 prior Chromebook Plus 514’s from Acer.
Raptor Lake Refresh
All we really know from the listing over at Chromium Dash for ‘Jubilant’ is the fact that it will be called the Acer Chromebook Plus 514, that its code name is ‘Jubilant’, and that it will come bearing some sort of Raptor Lake Refresh processor from Intel.
That could range from the very-capable Core 3-100U we have in the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook Plus all the way up to a Core 7 – we simply don’t know just yet how Acer plans to position this device.
The previous 2 Chromebook Plus 514s were powered by the AMD Ryzen 3 7320C and the Intel Core i3-N305 processors respectively, so neither one was a performance beast. Even with the Core 3-100U in the Samsung, I’ve never had a single performance issue across the board. So, if we’re looking at that much power or better, the new Chromebook Plus 514 should be quite fast.
There’s a good chance these devices get both consumer and enterprise versions, but with Acer that just means they get sold in different channels with or without the enterprise upgrade on the software side of things. Hopefully that translates into both models showing up soon in a Best Buy, because Acer makes great devices that are usually priced well and go on sale often.
Now that we know the ‘Jubilant’ code name is attached to this new device from Acer, I’ll keep digging around to see if I can uncover a bit more about it. For now, it looks like we’ll soon get a new duo of solid Chromebook Plus options from Acer any day now.
