Update: Google has published a blog post including the link, so you can now vote with the button below from any device.
The Google Play team has fired up their 2020 Users’ Choice Awards and you can vote right now for your app of choice in four different categories! Google wants to hear about your favorite content on the Play Store between now and November 23rd when voting ends. They will then pick the winners on December 1st. They did the same thing last year and while it’s a small thing, I like the idea of involving the community who’s actually using the apps.
Vote for your favorite User’s Choice app, game, movie, and book. I voted for Disney+, Genshin Impact, Knives Out, and Stephen King’s ‘If It Bleeds’. I think that most of my choices will get a lot of votes, given their popularity this year, but we’ll see. I’m not exactly sure how the apps up for consideration are chosen, but there are some in the mix that I probably wouldn’t have picked. My guess is that it’s a mix of the content with the most downloads and the highest ratings, and then it’s ultimately the decision of the editorial team. I live in the U.S., so you may see different content as the candidates are localized by country and may be partially blocked if you have parental controls enabled on your account.
For those of you wondering how you can vote, well, that’s the potentially tricky bit – The banner advertising the Play Users’ Choice Awards does not show up on the Google Play Store for Chromebook users or on the web so far as I could tell, even after I tried to modify last year’s URL to find it, so you’ll have to open your phone and navigate to the Store’s ‘Apps’ tab. Once there, you’re good to go!
