YouTube Premium is getting more expensive in the US. Google has quietly started raising subscription prices across the board, with standard individual accounts going up by $2 a month and the family plan seeing a $4 jump.

The standard Premium Individual plan now costs $15.99 per month, up from the previous $13.99 rate. If you prefer to pay annually, that price is moving from $139.99 to $159.99. Even the Premium Lite and Student tiers are increasing by $1, bringing both of those plans to $8.99 a month. The biggest jump hits the Premium Family plan. The five-person tier now costs $26.99 a month.

When to expect the price change

The new prices are already live on the YouTube website if you go to sign up for a new account today. For existing subscribers, Google is currently rolling out notification emails to let users know about the change.

The email explains that the increase will help the company continue to improve the service and support creators. Based on the emails going out, existing users will see the new rates reflected on their upcoming billing cycles starting in early June.

A warning for iOS users

If you currently subscribe to YouTube Premium through Apple’s App Store, you are going to see an even higher rate. Because of the built-in App Store fee, the Individual plan comes out to $20.99 a month. In their notification email, YouTube is actually advising those users to cancel their iOS subscription and sign up directly on the website to secure the standard $15.99 rate.

This marks the first US price hike for YouTube Premium since 2023, following similar subscription increases from platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video over the last few months.
