Google has just rolled out Audio Overview to Gemini, bringing a crowd-favorite feature over from NotebookLM to help users better digest large swaths of information. One of AI’s most useful capabilities right now for general users is the ability to synthesize and present complex data sets in an easy-to-understand format. Audio Overview accomplishes this using a synthesized podcast-style experience that is both incredibly helpful and wildly impressive in its delivery.
For those who’ve not experienced Audio Overviews, imagine uploading a dense research paper, a lengthy set of class notes, or even a massive Deep Research report. With a simple click, Gemini can generate a dynamic audio discussion between two AI hosts that sounds nothing like a robotic chat, but instead like a lively conversation that delves into the source material. They make connections and offer unique perspectives just like you’d expect from a completely personalized podcast.
This feature isn’t just a novelty; it’s a powerful learning tool. Whether you’re commuting, exercising, or simply multitasking, Audio Overview allows you to absorb information efficiently. The ability to transform documents and slides into audio discussions opens up new possibilities for learning and staying informed on the go. Check out a quick example I made by simply asking Gemini Deep Research to explain the transition of ChromeOS to the Android Kernel:
How to try this for yourself
The technical mechanics are straightforward. You upload your files or have Gemini do Deep Research on a topic, and Gemini prompts you with a suggestion chip to generate the Audio Overview.

This functionality is now available to Gemini and Gemini Advanced subscribers globally, starting with English, with plans to expand to more languages soon. You can access these audio discussions on the web and through the Gemini mobile app, and you can easily share or download them for offline listening.
Google is clearly committed to making AI tools more accessible and user-friendly. By leveraging AI to create engaging audio content, Google is effectively bridging the gap between complex information and everyday users. It’s a significant step forward in how we interact with and learn from our digital content, and Audio Overviews are something I think we’ll continue to leverage for a very long time.
