You can now edit videos with just prompts and create custom avatars in Google Vids thanks to Gemini Omni

If you’ve spent any time trying to create professional video content for a business or a marketing campaign, you know how incredibly time-consuming it can be. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve had a “quick edit” turn into an hour-long project. Well, Google is looking to fix that today by rolling out its latest media generation model, Gemini Omni Flash, directly into Google Vids.

If you are familiar with how the Nano Banana model handles quick image generation, think of this as the video equivalent. This new integration into Google Vids allows you to edit existing videos using simple text prompts and generate realistic, personal avatars.

Edit videos by just typing

The biggest workflow shift here is the ability to edit your video assets through natural conversation. Instead of wrestling with a traditional timeline to fix a mistake, you can just prompt Gemini Omni to handle it.

According to Google, this allows you to salvage less-than-perfect footage by asking the AI to fix poor lighting or erase messy background clutter. For marketers, this means you can easily refresh aging ad creatives—swapping out backgrounds, changing product colors, or even altering a character’s appearance without scheduling a reshoot. You can even test different creative concepts by changing camera angles and visual styles, or update outdated on-screen text and voiceovers to keep explainer videos fresh.

Create your own AI avatar

The other big addition is the ability to generate a personal avatar in your videos that actually looks and sounds like you. We saw Google add these AI avatars in the Gemini app after I/O 2026, but now they are completely integrated into Google Vids.

If you’ve ever gotten in front of the camera for a video, you know the logistical hassle of getting camera-ready to shoot even just a quick video update. Now, you can use a secure capture process to record your face and voice once. From there, you can use that custom avatar to generate welcome messages, social clips, or internal pitches using only text.

There are all sorts of ways that businesses and creative teams could use this tool could be used, but one big area will be storyboarding and idea generation. You will now be able to test out something like a commercial script with a realistic avatar before you ever turn on a real camera, saving tons of production time and money.

Safety and availability

Because AI-generated avatars can be a slippery slope, Google is building in some strict safety rails. Access to the avatar feature is locked to users who are 18 or older and have their primary language set to English. And every single video generated by Gemini Omni will include an imperceptible SynthID digital watermark to ensure transparency around AI-generated content. If you manage a team, Workspace admins will also have full control over who gets access to these tools.
